Weight Loss Update (with numbers)

I took measurements shortly after I started dieting and taking Alli on Feb 2, 2009. Here are my numbers so far. I'm at (roughly) 165 lbs today.

2/8/09 5/1/09 11/27/09 Difference:
Chest 43.5" 40.75" 37.5" -6"
Arm 14" 13" 11.5" -2.5"
Hips 47" 43.5" 38" -9"
Waist 41" 37" 29.5" -11"
Thigh 24" 22" 21" -3"

So my grand totals for the past 292 days is ~60 lbs and 37 inches!

If you haven't seen me in a while, you may not recognize me next time you see me :)

Introducing TweetWeight.com

tweetweight_logoI'm well on the way to my goal weight of 185 lbs and I had an idea to use Twitter to keep tack of my weight loss goals.

Accountability is really what it's all about. I've got friends and coworkers that follow me on twitter and if they know how much weight I've lost (or gained) recently, it's more incentive to do better with eating habits and exercise.

So I built TweetWeight.com. All you have to do to use it is send a tweet to @tweetweight with your current weight. You can also add comments after your weight. Anything you want up to Twitter's character limit. TweetWeight even supports decimals in your weight.

TweetWeight.com will send feedback to you and let you know how much you've gained or lost since the last time you told it your weight, and will also help you keep track of your goal weight and goal date.

The site will log your current weight and each time you tell @tweetweight your new weight, you can see your progress in an interactive graph. Just go to http://tweetweight.com/your_user_name. Here's mine. You can see your complete history of tweets and responses from the site.

You can set goals by tweeting something like "@tweetweight goal 185" and "@tweetweight goaldate 7/31/2009". These are then stored and used in your feedback to calculate how much weight you've got to loose and to eventually congratulate you on reaching it.

So that's my new Twitter service. I hope you like it and start using it if you want to track your weight loss and be accountable to your friends. Let me know what I can do to improve the service!

Maybe the Painful Gastric Convulsions Will Help Me Loose Weight

I'm taking Alli for the first time today.

We'll see how it goes with my system.

The primary side effects of the drug are gastrointestinal-related, and include steatorrhea—that is, oily, loose stools; because orlistat blocks some of the dietary fat from being absorbed, the fat is excreted unchanged in the feces—, fecal incontinence, frequent or urgent bowel movements, and flatulence. GlaxoSmithKline recommends that Alli users be cautious of the possible side effects until they "have a sense of any treatment effects".

Obese? Not Quite Yet!

Unfortunately, I have a very sedentary job. I don't like the fact that I sit in a chair all day long and the only "exercise" I get is going up to the break room to get my coffee fix. I've been letting myself go under the excuses: "I'm really stressed having just moved and starting a new job" or "my schedule doesn't allow me to work out in the mornings like I would like to".

That ends today.

A co-worker send me a link to foodsel.com and it started me thinking again about my health. I'm going to start going back to the gym this week.

No more excuses.

My father's side of the family has a history of heart problems and being overweight can just increase those risks. I don't want to die of a heart attack when I'm 40 so the best thing I can do is take care of myself now. I've worked out since college and my wife is a certified personal trainer, so I know what I need to do. It's just a matter of having the self-discipline and willpower to get out and actually do it!

My BMI is 28.4 right now... "overweight" but not "obese." I don't ever want to be obese. We'll see how this goes and I'll post updates. It'll be like my personal "Biggest Loser"
